Project Overview

WCSD took a long term lease on the former John Rogers School, one of the original public schools in the State of Washington. The school was the first concrete school building in the city of Tacoma and was designed by architect Frederick Heath, one of Tacoma’s foremost architects. The school was built at the turn of the century at the behest of the largely working class neighborhood of Polish immigrants. After many years of disrepair, WCSD took over the building with the goal to return it to its original purpose as a school and to maintain its historic exterior and provide significant internal upgrades.

The facility now houses Impact | Commencement Bay Elementary School, a TK-5 grade school.
