Project Overview

WCSD supported Catalyst Public Schools to lease and rehabilitate a school building in Bremerton, WA. Originally built in 1948 as a traditional public school, the property was previously occupied and renovated by the US Navy. It was subsequently purchased by a local church, with whom Catalyst partnered to rehabilitate the building and maintain the property as a community asset. In 2020, Catalyst: Bremerton opened with kindergarten, 1st, 5th, and 6th grades and will grow to educate grades K-8.

Phase I of the renovation began in February 2020. This phase included the creation of 12 classrooms and several administrative spaces, as well as upgrading the existing residential-style kitchen to a commercial warming kitchen, and installing a new roof, windows, and HVAC system. Phase II includes building an additional six classrooms and a new main entrance to accommodate the school’s full enrollment of 504 students.
